Trereife House - A fine Manor House on the outskirts of Newlyn and Penzance.
Look a little further inland from Mount’s Bay and, at the edge of Penzance, you’ll find Trereife House (pronounced Treave). The neat parterres and terraces of a classic Cornish garden form the entrance to the historic house, The Le Grice family’s horses graze the surrounding parkland and the rich blue of the bay can be glimpsed just beyond the woodland. A more romantic or elegant setting can hardly be imagined. The house and grounds offer the perfect facilities for a wedding, meeting, conference and film venue. We have staged opera, jazz and theatrical events. We also have our own art gallery with shows scheduled throughout the season.
The garden at Trereife benefits from having one of only five modern parterre gardens. Parterre comes from the french for ‘on the ground’ and is defined as being a garden constructed on a a surface of planting beds, edged in stone or tightly clipped hedging and gravel paths. Laid out in 1999 in time for the new millennium, the elaborate parterre was planned out by designer, Lyn Le Grice, to enliven the terrace adjacent to the Queen Anne front of 1904. Divided by a ‘ha ‘ha’ from the parkland if offered a spacious format and a chance of a fresh focus for the garden.
