Wheal Bunnie has been known by various names over its lifetime. Also known as Old Bonny, St. Austell Hills and Shelton Clay & Tin Mine, the lies just to the west of Stenalees, on the eastern boundary of the Gunheath China Clay Works. The mine worked several lodes including: No.1, No.5, South Lode, No.4, No.3, No.6, No.7, No.8 and No.9 Lodes. Only one shaft is recorded - Engine Shaft.

Records of production are: 120 tons of black tin between 1837 and 1838, 246 tons of black tin in 1870 and 1872 and also 83 tons of wolfram.

Now that 'World Heritage' status has been achieved Cornwall in Focus will monitor developments and learn how the mines of the St. Austell District fare within the overall Mining framework.

For those of you with possibly a little more time to explore, once you've done 'the tourist bit', why not explore Cornwall's industrial heritage through its Tin and Copper Mines or learn more from my Cornish Bookstore
