St. Austell Mining District - Treverbyn, Knightor, Ruby & Trethurgy Mines

Treverbyn, Knightor, Ruby & Trethurgy Mines lie about three quarters of a mile east of Penwithick, between and Bugle and St Blazey in the Luxulyan section of the St. Austell Mining District. They were four adjoining mines working on an iron lode producing 58% to 66% metallic iron. There were two known shafts on the lode: Butt's Shaft and Floyd's Shaft.

Records of production are:
Ruby: 2,000 tons of iron ore in 1862
Treverbyn: 204 tons in 1864
Ruby & Knightor: 51,190 tons between 1862 and 1872
Knightor & Treverbyn: 4,580 tons between 1872 and 1874
and finally Ruby & Trethurgy: 25,150 tons between 1872 and 1880.

Other associated minerals were limonite, haematite and black quartz.

Now that 'World Heritage' status has been achieved Cornwall in Focus will monitor developments and learn how the mines of the St. Austell District fare within the overall Mining framework.
