Ancient Sites of Cornwall - An Introduction
James' first introduction to ancient sites...aged 13 Dad and I left home at 11.20am and drove to Zennor and parked there. We walked along a muddy footpath to Boswednack through fields full of cows, while looking for ancient standing stones and hut circles. We drove on to Carn Galver and parked up to take some photographs walking down to see Bosigran Cliff and settlement. We were shocked to see climbers ascending the shattered granite, but later noticed the existence of a 'Climbing Club' nearby. We walked back up past the mine taking some more photographs. At Morvah, we turned left to head towards Madron. We parked the car at Mên-an-Tol studio and walked up to Mên Scryfa (The inscribed stone) :
RinLoBRAH CuHoVAL - FILi - Here lies RYALVRAN (Royal Raven) son of CUNOVAL Dad took some photographs and I wondered if it was a marker to the groove in Carn Galver. We walked back to the path and down to Mên-an-Tol
then climbed through the hole in the stone to wish myself 'good luck'. We took some more photographs and then walked up the path through the gorse and bracken to Green Burrow Mine. After a break for dinner, we walked over to Lanyon Quoit taking another couple of photographs. On the way home now, we drove past Trengwainton Gardens through leafy lanes loaded with blooming pink rhododendrons. We passed through Madron and Heamoor before heading back home, arriving at 16.40pm. © James (aged 13) on 03/06/2000. More Photographs...
