Wendron Mining District - Polhigey Moor MineOS Explorer Map 103: Grid reference SW705353 Polhigey Moor Mine lies about a quarter of a mile southeast of the church in the Wendron village of Carnmenellis. The sett is bounded by Penmarth to the west and the Stithians Reservoir to the east. In mining terms its nearest neighbours were Calvadnack Mine and Polhigey Mine. This relatively small tin mine worked a number of lodes from the following shafts: Engine Shaft, South Shaft, Treffry's Shaft, West Shaft and East Shafts. Production figures for Polhigey Moor Mine are hard to find, but it is known that between 1862 and 1864 as well as 1873, 37 tons of black tin were raised. Its best year's production was in 1863 when it raised almost 11 tons of black tin at a value of £659.70. Between 1860 and 1861 its Manager was William Polkinghorne - also Purser between 1859 and 1865. The mine was suspended in 1875.
