Rocks & Treverbyn United Tin Mines lay just east of Carnsmerry and the A391, Stenalees to Bugle road. The sett is now obscured by the Rocks China Clay Works. It worked five main lodes. These were: Main Lode, Great Tin Lode, Goonbarrow Lode, Webb's Lode and South Lode. Shafts on the mine included: Huppucks, Simmons, Lukes, Pellys, Hodges, Buckleys, Thomsons, Cunninghams, Grays, Kenworthys, Sunderlands, Eastern Whim, Western Whim, No.1, Carnsmerry Whim and Rawsons Shafts. The mine lies about half a mile north of Stenalees in the Luxulyan Section of the St. Austell Mining District.

The mine produced 551 tons of black tin in 1839 and between 1852 and 1873. It closed in 1906.

Now that 'World Heritage' status has been achieved Cornwall in Focus will monitor developments and learn how the mines of the St. Austell District fare within the overall Mining framework.

For those of you with possibly a little more time to explore, once you've done 'the tourist bit', why not explore Cornwall's industrial heritage through its Tin and Copper Mines or learn more from my Cornish Bookstore
