The North Coast - Treburgett Mine

Treburgett Mine, including Old Treburgett Lead-Silver mine, lies threequarters of a mile southwest of St. Teath in the St. Kew parish of North Cornwall. The mine worked lead-silver lodes but also produced sizeable amounts of Zinc, Pyrite and Iron Ore. The main lodes on the sett were: Trewethan Lode, Main Lode, East Lode and West Lode. The lodes were worked from numerous shafts including: Adit Shaft, Grinder's Shaft, Footway Shaft, Engine Shaft, John Shaft, Old Engine Shaft and Massey's Shaft.

Records of production are: 2,180 tons of 75% Lead ore, 9,530 ounces of Silver ore, 44 tons of zinc ore, 120 tons of Pyrite and 62 tons of Iron Ore for the period 1871 to 1881. Other associated minerals included the lead sulphide, Galena, zinc sulphide (Blende), Limonite, Siderite (iron carbonate) and the lead iron arsenic mineral, Carminite.

Now that 'World Heritage' status has been achieved Cornwall in Focus will monitor developments and learn how the mines of North Cornwall fare within the overall Mining framework.
