At Efford Down Stables our trekking is all off road on our 100 acre farm including “Efford down”. With fantastic views along the coastline, the town and surrounding countryside, our experienced friendly escorts guide you on an enjoyable hack amidst some of Cornwalls most stunning scenery. There is no better way of getting out there and enjoying it than on horseback.
Bosvathick Riding Stables, a friendly family run yard, offers riding for all. Whether you are young or old, looking for a relaxing pastime or just want to improve your riding technique, they can provide the training you need in a safe and comfortable environment.
Set on a 92 acre farm, Bosvathick has grown since 1994 to accommodate 50 horses and ponies, of which 30 are owned by them and are used for lessons and escorted hacking.
They have a selection of horses and ponies for all ages and abilities of rider. Lessons are held in the purpose-built arena, taught by BHS qualified staff. Alternatively, you may ride out with experienced and friendly escorts, along fields, lanes and woodland.
Nervous riders are most welcome, and are encouraged to come and learn to ride at their own pace. Novice riders are welcome to take a steady trek enjoying the beautiful views, while more experienced riders may prefer a slightly faster pace, where they will find plenty of opportunity to canter across open farmland.
For anyone who likes to know what they are eating and where it came from the local 'Farmers Market' is an absolute must visit. The earlier you arrive the better, as the best produce will always go first. The sight of stalls all set out with brightly coloured fresh local veg that's in season and the smells that assail the nostrils are a treat in themselves.
There are usually some butcher's stalls too and they will happily answer questions on how to prepare and cook some of the more unusual cuts of meat that you won't find in the supermarket. Stallholders can tell you which hen laid your eggs and which pig turned into your bacon.
Cornwall in Focus has details of numerous farmers markets here. Why not use our Forum to let us and others know what you think of those you visit.

Run by an ex international event rider who in turn has trained international riders. We strongly recognise that everyone has their own reasons for riding and we respect that. We help people with their own horse or pony get the best out of them, so they can enjoy whatever their chosen goal.
Our facilities include riding over our own 200 acres of farmland and woodland, sand school, 2 show jump arenas (grass), dressage arenas (grass), extensive cross country course highly suitable to build both horse and rider confidence. This course is available for Hunter Trials. The facilities are also very suitable for One Day Events. Penewin was established in 2000. It is a family run riding school in Cornwall offering riding experiences for all ages and abilities. At Penewin we want people to really enjoy horses. As well as having a super team of teaching staff, we also have lovely horses. We encourage people to take exams, compete, and improve their riding all the time and sometimes take special hacks out on the moor – or have a breakfast ride if you are an early morning person.
Pony Club: We are a pony club centre. This means children and young adults can join the national pony club without owning their own pony. Every Wednesday evening between 5pm and 7pm we run a pony club session and members can earn badges as they learn stable management and riding. We also run a pony club camp during the summer holidays when members can sleep over and own a horse for their time in camp and go cross country schooling etc. Also we send teams to compete against other pony clubs – at dressage, eventing and show jumping. Just ask any member of staff if you are interested.

To ensure their safe release into the wild on recovery or, if permanently disabled, to provide a comfortable home in a suitable environment. It also aims to promote awareness of the conservation needs of owl species and their natural habitats by working with schools, youth organisations, groups and individuals of all ages. There is a Hand-Tame area offering an amazing opportunity to meet and touch a number of our hand-tame owls and learn about their characteristics. These owls have been hand reared for educational purposes and range from some of the smallest species in the world to among the largest.
