The Barn, Goongillings, sleeps 8
Goongillings Farm, originally a dairy and arable farm has been in our family for many years. The farm runs down to the upper reaches of the Helford River with half a mile of tidal foreshore and its own private quay. Both cottages and farm are covenanted to the National Trust to preserve them from development, and the area is designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Barn was originally a stable block and forms the top of the old farmyard. It is over 70' long and where possible we have kept the high vaulted beamed ceiling, which gives it an extremely light and spacious feel. The centrepiece is a large kitchen/dining and living area, over 40' long. At one end there is a sleeping gallery up in the roof beams which is very popular with slightly older children. At the other end is the kitchen (15' X 10') made up of handmade fitted pine units with solid beech worktops, with a modern ceramic hob range cooker, dishwasher, washer-drier and microwave. There is a full range of quality equipment to cater for at least eight. One side of the kitchen forms a 'breakfast bar' dividing the kitchen from the remaining living area (30' x 15'). For mealtimes there is a large antique oval dining table which can seat up to eight. Beyond this is an area with plenty of comfortable seating around a large woodstove. There is a teletext TV/DVD and a Hi Fi with CD player. There are two double doors leading onto the farm courtyard on one side, and a large French window opening onto a sunny, south facing patio on the other side of the house. Sleeping accommodation is arranged in three bedrooms plus the 'sleeping gallery'. The bedrooms are prettily furnished with comfortable beds and bits and pieces of attractive furniture. The principal bedroom contains a double bed, the second is a good sized room with twin beds which can be used as double if required, and the third is a small bedroom with twin beds. The gallery also has twin beds and is accessed by a fixed ladder from the main area. There is a good sized bathroom with airing cupboard, bath, power shower, washbasin and WC. Hot water is by economy 7 immersion heater. As well as the woodstove, there is full oil fired central heating throughout enabling the cottage to be comfortable at any time of year. Karenza, sleeps 6
These sympathetically refurbished barns are set around a secluded sub-tropical garden close to the romantic Helford river made famous by Daphne Du Maurier's novel Frenchman's Creek. The barns enjoy a secluded spot deep in the unspoilt area of North Helford, near Cornwall's almost tropical coast. The village of Mawnan Smith is under a mile and a half away, and provides excellent dining and country pubs. The surrounding area is home to several excellent Cornish gardens such as Trebah and Penjerrick. The secluded beach at Durgan is accessed by a path and provides excitement for young and old as they explore the track down to the beach where they are amazed at the seclusion, the mild climate and the sandy beach that combine to create a Mediterranean feel to the area. The Helford river is best explored by boat which can be obtained at Port Navas, the heart of Cornwall's oyster industry (the yacht club offers temporary membership to visitors). In fact the area is a boating `mecca' as the opportunity to explore inland creeks, coves and rivers as well as the open sea is tantalisingly close by. The Argal reservoir and water park is under a mile away and provides excellent world class fly and coarse fishing, recreation area, bird watching and it has its own watersports park with boats available.

The house is equipped to a good standard, and makes a lovely private retreat for a relaxed holiday. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where narrow lanes meander through a luxuriant landscape. Attractive little fishing villages and yachting resorts, a sparkling blue sea and a wonderfully mild climate, all combine to give this region an almost Mediterranean feel; yet its sandy coves, steep headlands and little inland creeks, cutting through dense woods, are distinctively Cornish
