The Copper House, sleeps 12 - 14
The Copper House (TW6) is a detached Grade II listed building constructed around 1780 as an administrative building for the Gwennap copper mines. It features a huge iron-clad strongroom and it is said that the world copper price was set from here each morning. The property is accessed by a sweeping gravel driveway. Now granted mining World Heritage status, the parish of Gwennap was once said to be the richest square miles in the world. With the decline of mining in the mid to late 1800s, The Copper House reverted to a country house. Originally part of the Burncoose Landed Estate with the Chelsea award-winning nurseries adjacent, it now stands in its own secluded grounds surrounded by many species of camellias and rhododendrons. This idyillic rural position is set vaguely in the centre of a triangle between Truro, Falmouth and Redruth with the beaches of the south coast 5 miles, the north coast 8 miles and Lands End 20 miles, making it perhaps one of the best central positions for visiting the whole of Cornwall.
