How to get to Cornwall

By car

There are three main routes into Cornwall:

• The A30 trunk road running down the centre of the county after leaving the M5 motorway at Junction 31 near Exeter. It runs to the north of Dartmoor before bypassing Okehampton. The road enters Cornwall near Launceston and runs west to Penzance, with roundabouts serving all the major towns of Cornwall.

• A Northern route along the A39 Atlantic Highway from North Devon crossing into Cornwall to the north of Bude, running along the north coast of Cornwall before passing Wadebridge and Padstow. The A3058 leads off to Newquay at Trekenning roundabout before the road joins the A30 at Highgate Hill. The A39 continues south towards Truro at Trispen before making its way to Falmouth on the south coast at the Arch Hill roundabout.

• The A38 is accessed at the western end of the M5 motorway at Junction 31 near Exeter, running to the south of Dartmoor before entering Plymouth and making its way to Bodmin via Saltash skirting Liskeard and Lostwithiel and running through the picturesque Glynn Valley before joining the A30 at Carminow Cross on the outskirts of Bodmin.

By train

Trains leave London Paddington daily at regular intervals for Penzance, with very convenient interchanges at Reading and Taunton. One of the most romantic ways to travel is by sleeper.

By coach

National Express offer a comprehensive coach link service to destinations such as Newquay, St Agnes, St Austell, Truro, Penzance and other popular locations.

By air

• There are regular flights from London Gatwick to Newquay.

• Air Southwest also operate flights to Newquay from Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Bristol, Dublin and Cork.

• Skybus have a new service that includes flying from Cardiff to Newquay, also from St Brieuc, Brittany to Newquay.

• Slightly further afield Flybe fly to a range of UK and European destinations from Exeter International Airport.
