The 53rd West of England Steam Engine Rally, that was to have been held on the 15th, 16th, and 17th August 2008 at Tywarnhale Farm, Chiverton Cross, near St Agnes, in Cornwall has been cancelled due to recent heavy rain.
The rain has caused the fields to become waterlogged and the organisers have decided to cancel the rally as staging the event is now impractical.
The 2-day event was a highlight for traction engine enthusiasts and was expected to attract thousands of visitors.
The rally organising committee have expressed their "sincere regret" that they had decided to cancel but the site was now "impractical for many steam engines and other vehicles" ... "The committee has made this decision after much thought and will now consider the options for the 2009 rally" ... "We offer our apologies to the many supporters of the steam rally."
