It must become the responsibility of our new Cornwall Council to help facilitate a Stadium for Cornwall with the modern facilities of which the people of Cornwall can be proud. A Stadium that would serve to inspire our local sportsmen and women, along with Cornish youngsters, who aspire to play their sport at the highest levels.
The ‘Stadium for Cornwall’ Campaign Group was formed to promote and raise awareness for a modern, multi-functional stadium in Cornwall and to bring the idea to the attention of Cornwall Council, who may be able to facilitate (not wholly fund) such a project.
Local clubs such as Truro City FC, The Cornish All Blacks and other various sporting groups or clubs such as the Cornish Rugby Football Union, may all wish to use the facility and become part tenants.
A modern stadium could also be used to host a Celtic games festival, disabled sporting events and be used as a concert venue. An example of what a multi-functional stadium could offer Cornwall can be seen at http://stadiumforcornwall.com/?p=530.
WHY DOES CORNWALL NEED A STADIUM?
Cornwall is probably one of the few areas within the UK that doesn’t have a modern sporting stadium. Yet Cornish sportsmen and women have represented Cornwall all over the world and in many different sports. Back in the ‘old days’ Cornish Rugby has had the honour to have played host to many international touring rugby teams over the years including: New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand Maori, France, Romania, the USA, Canada, Japan and the Soviet Union.
Can we, the people of Cornwall, host such teams now and be proud of our modern sporting facilities? Can we host a major football game? Do we have a venue that would attract top bands? The answer must be a resounding NO!
So it is vital for the Cornish, the people of Cornwall and our future sporting stars, that we should have a modern multi - functional ‘Stadium for Cornwall’.
We must call upon our new ‘Cornwall Council’ to help facilitate the building of a Stadium of which Cornwall and her people can be proud and give our Cornish youngsters something to which they can aspire!
