About Cornwall in Focus

I was born in Cornwall in the 1960's and have lived in Cornwall most of my life. I work as a Quality Support and Improvement Technician in a local business and in my time off I enjoy walking the Cornish coastpath and swimming. I have always been interested in history and especially my 'roots'. I felt, from an early age, the desire to understand all about my surroundings.

At School and College I was always interested in Ancient History and Cultures, Geography and Geology. Other hobbies include Genealogy and amateur Astronomy. I have spent large amounts of my free time researching my family history and trying to understand what makes Cornwall distinct. Recently, I have found that my paternal ancestors came from St. Levan and my maternal ancestors from Laddenvean near St. Keverne. A few years ago I took time out to promote Cornish Rugby as an active member of Trelawny's Army - the Cornish Rugby Supporters Club.

I like to translate local place-names and surnames into their original Cornish meanings to further understand our language and culture. When I start something I usually see it through to the end; maybe it is due to my 'Earth' sign that I love the outdoor life so much. My favourite leisure activities include walking the Cornwall Coastal Footpath with my son, to whom the whole site is dedicated, travel - near and far, updating my website and redecorating my cornish cottage.

As for TV and cinema, I prefer historical and scientific documentaries such as 'Horizon', any of Michael Palin's journeys and 'Time Team', but also enjoy good comedy such as 'Open all Hours', 'Dead Ringers' and 'Little Britain'. To relax, I like watching Cult TV series such as 'Dune'; 'The Prisoner'; 'Stargate'; 'Farscape' and DVD's such as 'Monkey' , 'Jackie Chan', 'Jet Li', 'Donnie Yen' and 'The Water Margin'.

My favourite type of music is Reggae, especially 'Bob Marley'; 'Sly & Robbie', 'Shaggy' and 'UB40', although I also like to listen to 'Queen'; 'U2'; ''Bon Jovi'. When I can I like to watch local bands such as Show of Hands and Seth Lakeman. If you have any comments about the site or contents please send me an e-mail
