Focus on Rugby in Cornwall
The top tier of English rugby's County Championship has been renamed to honour one of the greatest players to have risen through its ranks. This 120-year-old competition has been somewhat eclipsed by the era of professional rugby, but there are still hundreds of players who turn out for their county hoping to lift the Bill Beaumont Cup. After an encouraging start, Cornwall playing with their usual passion and intensity, were rewarded by a try from Mark Richards. A further penalty try saw the Duchy race into a 12-0 lead. After some tactical replacements by the Devon coaching staff, the old enemy fought back strongly with two converted tries, making the score Cornwall 12 - 14 Devon at Half-Time. After the break, Cornwall got themselves back in front with an excellent try by Mark Bright. Devon responded by moving Ed Lewsey to scrum half. This move saw the visitors gradually exert more and more control on the game, scoring 3 more tries to put Cornwall to the sword, avenging last years 33 - 25 defeat in Devon.
