Altarnun Village

About Altarnun

Altarnun village

Altarnun, which nestles in the sheltered valley of Penpont Water, a tributary of the River Inny, is named in the Domesday Book as Penpont and can truly be described as one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall.

The fine church, known as the 'Cathedral of the Moors', is well worth a visit and Altarnun parish is the largest in Cornwall. The area has always been at the forefront of the Methodist religion and a bust of John Wesley looks down on the village from one of the houses.
