Walking Cape Cornwall to 'The Crowns' Botallack 2 miles

OS Explorer Map 102: grid reference SW350318 to SW362336

Walk Duration: 65 mins

Cape Cornwall Mine Chimney

Park your car in the large NT car park at Cape Cornwall. A good guidebook for the area is the National Trail Guide: SW Coast Path - Padstow to Falmouth by John Macadam. Walk up the road away from the car park and head for the wide track leading off left. The cove below you is Porthledden Cove. Continue up the track as it climbs steadily along Lower Boswedden Cliff. As it levels out near the top, take a little time out to look around or take photographs.

St Helens Oratory

The lighthouse far left, is the automated Longships Lighthouse; the large rocks below left are The Brisons. The ruined chapel on the Cape is St. Helen's Oratory (early Christian). The stack on the Cape was part of the Cape Cornwall (St. Just United) Mine (closed 1870). Follow the path down into the valley, looking across to the fine headland of Kenidjack Castle.

Atop Kenidjack

Shortly you reach a wooden footbridge crossing a small stream on the valley floor. Now about 20 minutes into your walk, follow the path as it climbs away from Zawn Buzz and up to Kenidjack. Proceed along the route shown by the granite coastal footpath marker stone up and over the somewhat windy Kenidjack Castle. It is now a relatively flat path along Kenidjack Cliff the ¾ mile or so to The Crowns. On your route you should pass the remains of Wheal Edward and Wheal Owles, reaching the finish about 1 hour after setting out.
