Walking High Cliff to Crackington Haven - 1.8 milesOS Explorer 111: grid reference SX136952 to SX143968 View Map Walk Duration 1 hour 10 minutes
Park your car at the small layby near Trevigue Farm. Walk across the road and follow the footpath signed 'Strangles'. At the fork in the path bear right to follow the waymarked route through a fence and proceed carefully towards the Cambeak. Take extra special care where the ground is ridged and cracked - often quite a way in from the cliff edge as some of the gullies are quite deep! - keep dogs under control. Below you lies Samphire Rock.
As you proceed north you pass above Little Strand (grid reference SX130960) and the unmistakeable Northern Door Arch. Drop down with care as you pass above Cam Strand, then climb along the back of the Cambeak headland. Follow either the yellow waymarked route to your left or take the easier white signed landward route to avoid 'winter grazing' on the headland itself. Drop down into Cam Dean passing Cam Draught.
Pick up the true coastpath again at a footbridge beside a post marked 'C.Haven 2/3 mile'. Look across the water to the hulk of Penkenna Point. Now about 40 minutes into your walk climb steps to a stile, continuing climbing for a short time before dropping down as you walk above Tremoutha Haven (grid reference SX137963). The small headland in front of you is Bray's Point. Cross another stile and a footbridge then up stone steps to a further stile into a field. Make your way over another stile-footbridge-stile combination before climbing the 50-odd steps to a kissing gate into a field at Bray's Point. Pass through another wooden kissing gate then simply drop down into Crackington Haven. Take a few seconds to read the plinth at the NT omega and pass the tennis courts after another kissing gate. Arrive on the beach some 70 minutes after setting out. An inland return to Trevigue can be made by following the footpaths up through East Wood
TAKE CARE ALL AROUND THIS AREA BECAUSE THESE CLIFFS ARE BRITTLE AND EASILY FRACTURED MAKING THEM DANGEROUS TO EXPLORE OTHER THAN BY RECOGNISED PATHS. LANDSLIPS AND ROCKFALLS ARE COMMON SO BE PREPARED TO TAKE ANY DIVERSIONS SIGNED FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY.
