The Beaches of East Cornwall - E05 - Portscatho
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike. Location: South Coast - Portscatho, Roseland Peninsula.
Portscatho A tiny east facing beach of sand and shingle overlooking Gerrans Bay at Portscatho harbour. It is only exposed when the tide is out. The name of the beach comes from the Cornish 'Porth-Scatho' meaning 'Cove of Boats'. Porthcurnick beach lies about half a mile north of Portscatho. This is a small private beach, below the hamlet of Rosevine, near the National Trust area of Pednvadan. Although privately owned, access is permitted and there is a car park nearby/ It can be reached by turning off the A3078 Tregony-St. Mawes road at Curgurrell. Incidentally, there is also another little known beach at Porthbean Beach a further ½ mile north of Porthcurnick. It can be reached by following the footpath opposite the Trewithian road. Facilities
