The Beaches of East Cornwall - E19 - Hallane Mill Beach
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike. Location: South Coast - near St. Austell
Hallane lies on the western flank of Black Head at Trenarren near St. Austell. Pass Hallane House and proceed down the slope passing Hallane Mill on your way. The shingle beach is well worth a visit and can catch the sun in summer. It is also quite deserted as most visitors flock to the larger beaches at Pentewan and Porthpean. To the right of the beach runs a small waterfall and a small rock arch offering a 'frame' for the coast around Polrudden to the southwest. Swimming is possible but should be undertaken with great care as there are many submerged rocks offshore and the area is quite isolated if problems arise.
