This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Location: South Coast - Whitsand Bay, South East Cornwall

Long Sands Beach from Trethill Cliffs

Tregantle or Long Sands Beach lies about 9½ miles east of Looe and marks the start of the long sandy arc of interconnected beaches stretching 4 miles or so east almost to Rame Head itself. The headland provides shelter for beach visitors and a stroll along the beach can seem almost endless! Please be aware of the state of the tide if you wish to do this. The beach is overlooked by the nearby Tregantle Fort - a Ministry of Defence Establishment with rifle ranges live firing and such like. The areas marked on the Ordnance Survey map as 'out of bounds' should be noted and warning notices observed. Local newspapers and pamphlets should be checked to find out about access for the general public before visiting this beach
