The Beaches of East Cornwall - E47 - Cawsand

This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Cawsand Beach on a hot June 2003 day

A pleasant shingle beach with all the usual facilities at the back of the beach. There are rock pools and inlets for children to play in and its sheltered location makes Cawsand a popular beach with families. There is quite a bit to do in Cawsand and its neighbour Kingsand including locating the ancient county border. There are some excellent pubs and shops in the twin villages whilst coastal path enthusiasts will find several good walks. To the east lies over the Minadhu lies the Mount Edgcumbe Estate and Country Park and Cremyll while three miles or so to the west lies the excellent viewpoint of Rame Head with its 14th century chapel. This 'forgotten corner of Cornwall' is well worth a visit.
