The Beaches of North Cornwall - N02 - Mawgan Porth
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike. Location: North Coast - 7 miles north of Newquay
Mawgan Porth is a large west facing beach situated mid-way between the larger resorts of Watergate Bay and Bedruthan Steps, some 7 miles north of Newquay. It is quite popular with visitors and locals alike due to its expanse of flat golden sand especially at low tide. Swimming and surfing is good although they should not be attempted at extremely low tides. There are a good selection of shops, toilets, a cafe and a pub as well as a petrol station at this self-contained resort. Parking is relatively straightforward in a good sized car park behind the row of shops. At high tide about three-quarters of the beach is covered but there is still quite a large area of sand for the beach-goer to colonize. Facilities
