The Beaches of North Cornwall - N19 - Pentireglaze Haven
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike. Location: North Coast - Polzeath
Pentireglaze Haven lies at the northern edge of Hayle Bay, Polzeath behind Slipper Point and at low tide it connects to its larger neighbour. There are excellent cliff walks up from beach level to the 80 metre (262 feet) high Pentire Point and on to the spectacular twin headlands of The Rumps. The whole area around here is steeped in Geology with traces of pillow lavas and other (ancient) volcanic activity not all that hard to find. An excellent viewpoint both west to Stepper Point and eastwards towards Port Isaac. Ancient man also made use of these headlands as there are traces of an Iron Age Cliff castle on the Rumps.
