The Beaches of North Cornwall - N28 - Bossiney
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike. Location: North Coast - 1 mile east of Tintagel
Bossiney beach nestles below high cliffs. There is no beach at high tide and only a small amount of coarse shingle, sand and boulders at low tide. Access can be quite difficult. The beach is watered on its western side by a waterfall tumbling down from the cliffs above. Care is required when choosing your resting place as parts of the cliff face are highly fractured. To the left of the cove lies the strangely shaped Elephant Rock - looking like a drinking elephant under the right lighting conditions. There are fine cliff walks west over Willapark and Gullastem to Barras Nose and Tintagel and east over Bossiney Common towards Trevalga and Boscastle.
