OS Explorer Map 102 LandOS Explorer Map 102 Land's End

This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Location: South Coast - 4 miles southwest of Penzance

Lamorna from the outer harbour wall

A small cove overlooked by the remains of an old quarry on the eastern flank of the valley. Lamorna is reached by turning off the B3315 road from Newlyn where signed and following the somewhat narrow road down to the harbour car park. To the casual visitor there may not seem to be all that much here. The cove and surrounding clifftops should be explored as there are excellent walking opportunities all around. The 'Lamorna Wink' pub offers refreshments nearby - it got its strange name as it was thought to be the haunt of smugglers many years ago and all you had to do was give a 'knowing wink' to the landlord to have a drop of contraband brandy or spirit. To the west lies the lighthouse at Tater Du and a fine walk down over Boscawen Point to the little known boulder-strewn beach at St. Loys Cove whilst to the northeast along a choice of paths lie Carn Du and Mousehole. A short distance inland lies the ancient Merry Maidens stone circle and the entrance grave at Tregiffian.

'T'was down in Albert Square, I never shall forget, her eyes they shone like diamonds and the evening it was wet, wet, wet ...'
