Gunwalloe Church Cove is a west facing beach near Helston on the Lizard Peninsula. Its name derives from the Breton missionary saint 'Ste. Winwaloe' and is an unusual beach in that there is a church set below the low cliffs of Castle Mound at its northern end. What is even more unusual, is that the bell tower is detached from the main body of the small church standing about 3 metres away cut into the cliffside. Quite popular due to its proximity to Helston, fine NT car park and its good sandy beach. A good base from which to explore north to Dollar Cove and Halzephron and south over Carrag-a-Pilez to Poldhu Cove. Overlooked by a golf course on its eastern edge. Well worth a visit!

Also known as Jangye Ryn, Dollar Cove is a west facing beach near Helston on the Lizard Peninsula. Usually overlooked by many due to its proximity to the popular Gunwalloe Church Cove and its omission from the OS map. This small cove of sand and rocks can be a little more secluded than its near neighbour. At high tide the sand gets covered leaving only coarse shingle and quite large boulders. A good beach to visit at low tide however, with many nooks and crannies to explore but DON'T GET CUT OFF BY THE TIDE. Geologists amongst you may like to look at the contorted slates at the foot of the cliffs. The cove got its strange name after the shipwreck of a Spanish galleon in the late 17th century - carrying silver 'dollars'. The ship was rumoured to be carrying large amounts of treasure worth millions in todays money! Little treasure has been found though despite several quite organised attempts.
