This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Location: South Coast - 1.5 miles north of Lizard Village

A hot day at Kynance Cove in August 2006

Probably my favourite location in Cornwall. Kynance Cove is very picturesque and is important historically and geologically. To experience Kynance at its best, it is suggested that you arrive at the car park about 3 hours before low tide. There is then a half mile or so descent down to the beach with several excellent photo opportunities along the way. The beach at Kynance Cove really unfolds at low tide when it is possible to explore the caves (The Parlour and The Drawing Room) and the bases of the serpentine rock stacks such as The Bishop, Gull Rock and Asparagus Island.

The Bellows at Kynance Cove

The strangely named The Bellows lie just to the northwest of the beach. Swimming can be done safely here if you do it at the right state of the tide. DO NOT SWIM AT LOW TIDE AND FOLLOW ANY SIGNS - IF IN DOUBT ASK! There is a small cafe here in season and excellent cliff walks up onto The Rill. Historically, The Rill was one of the first places to spot the Spanish Armada in 1588.
