OS Explorer Map 103 The LizardOS Explorer Map 103 The Lizard

This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Location: South Coast - 0.5 mile east of Lizard Point, Lizard Peninsula

Looking west across Housel Bay

A southeast facing beach uncovered at low tide. It is overlooked to the west by the Lizard Lighthouse and to the east by the Housel Bay Hotel. The beach is quite sheltered as it lies in a crescent bay between Bumble Rock and Pen Olver. The beach can be reached down a steep cliff path but no facilities are available and care should be taken with the incoming tide. Not really suitable for families or children. There is however excellent coastpath walking all around here. Lots to see above the cove with the Lizard Lighthouse, Marconi's Telegraph Station and Lloyds Signal Station and of course Lizard Village very close by.
