The Beaches of South Cornwall - S24 - Cadgwith
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike. Location: South Coast - 2.5 miles northeast of Lizard Point
Cadgwith is actually TWO small beaches separated by a small narrow headland known as the Todden. The southwestern most beach is the 'pleasure' beach and is also known as Little Cove. The slightly larger northeastern beach is the working beach and is normally full of at least 10 or so fishing boats and other assorted small craft. Both beaches are quite rocky but are quite sheltered and are safe for families. Behind the beaches many of the old cottages have thatched roofs and are quite picturesque. It is no suprise that Cadgwith is usually found in most Cornish Calendars. Dogs are permitted on the east beach only. There is also an excellent Inn nearby.
