OS Explorer Map 103 The LizardOS Explorer Map 103 The Lizard

This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Location: South Coast - 1½ miles northeast of St. Keverne

Known locally as Pro'stock. Porthoustock is signposted from St. Keverne on the B3293. The beach has a large flat expanse of coarse dark sand and shingle. Parking is allowed at the back of the beach taking care not to obstruct the boats of the local fishermen. There are toilets behind the beach and some picturesque thatched cottages. Coastal footpath enthusiasts can walk north on the unofficial coastpath to Porthkerris over Pencra Head and Mên Talbac (dependendent on the state of the tide as part of the route is cut off at high tide). You pass through the quarry workings of the former St. Keverne Quarry but there is no footpath to the south. You must follow the signed inland route.
