Maenporth Beach lies roughly midway between downtown Falmouth and the Helford River. Its name means cove of the rocks although it is quite sandy after all. The low cliffs shelter the beach from most adverse conditions and it can become very popular in summer. Swimming is quite good here but as usual any warnings displayed should be heeded. There are all the usual facilities here including the added bonus of Wind Surfing or Diving Tuition. There are excellent cliff walks south to Rosemullion Head and the Helford River or the far shorter walk around Pennance Point to Swanpool and Gyllyngvase beaches.
