Walking Trebarwith Strand to Tintagel - 2.0 milesOS Explorer 111: grid reference SX048864 to SX052889 View Map Walk Duration 1 hour 25 minutes
Park your car at the main car park in Fore Street, Tintagel - £1 Out of season. Head across the road and follow the road marked to 'St. Materiana's Church and Glebe Cliff ' that runs beside the Cornishman Inn. Walk up the hill until you meet the churchyard. Continue seaward passing several unusual graves until you meet the exit marked 'Glebe Cliff'. Proceed through the small car park bearing left down towards the Youth Hostel at Dunderhole Point - grid reference SX047881. Progress is swift here along the level clifftop. The route now veers more southerly passing a wooden bench seat as it cuts over the headlands of Higher and Lower Penhallic Points along the 80m (260 feet) contour.
After passing Dennis Scale the path runs closer to the sheer cliff edge as it passes above Bagalow Beach and Quarry (NT). There are a couple of footpaths here leading east to the Manor House at Tregatta or due north back through Trevillick Farm to Tintagel. Ignore these inland returns unless time is pressing. Proceed southwards carefully as you head closer to the cliff edge once more. A slate hedge has been wisely set on the cliff edge to inspire confidence. Pause to admire the view of the spectacular 80 foot tall Pinnacle of rock left in Lanterdan Slate Quarry near Vean Hole.
The path now descends gently at first as you walk above Lill Cove. As you begin to near Trebarwith Strand the path steepens and the slates may become quite slippery in damp weather. Zigzag your way down to the back of the beach where refreshments may be obtained here in season. There is also a good pub with a fine terrace overlooking the beach - the Port William Inn.
