Carter's Rocks off Holywell Bay

The name of this beach comes from the fact that there are TWO Holy Wells in the village. The first is at Trevornick Valley, on the site of the Holywell Bay Leisure Park. The second well lies within a sea cave just where the beach meets the cliffs below The Kelseys at the north-eastern (Newquay) end of the beach. The cave can be explored but only with great care and on a falling tide, as it becomes completely filled at high tide !. It is not advisable to enter the cave alone and a good torch will be needed. Holywell Bay is a west facing fairly level beach, with large dunes and a small stream making up the back of the beach. There are lifeguard facilities in the summer season. Good cliff walks are possible all around here. West of Holywell Bay lies Perranporth reached by walking up the relatively steep coastpath to Penhale and Ligger Points. To the east lies Porth (Polly) Joke behind the flat headland of Kelsey Head, beyond that lies Crantock; The Gannel and Newquay.
