OS Explorer Map 104 Redruth & St AgnesOS Explorer Map 104 Redruth & St Agnes

This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Location: North Coast - 7 miles north of Truro

The sand at low tide extends over a large area and is extremely flat. This is great for walking but this also means that the tide comes in very quickly. Leaving the town of Perranporth behind you, the cliffs gradually give way to steep sand dunes. Walking up one of the larger dunes will lead you up to the remains of St. Piran's Oratory and his church.
Shortly you reach the eastern end of the beach, just below Ligger Point. Depending on the state of the tide and time available you now have THREE choices. The first is to return along the beach to Perranporth, the second is to head up into the sand dunes and back along the cliffs to Perranporth; the third choice is to continue your walk over Ligger Point and Penhale Point to Holywell Bay being sure to remember warnings about the arduous nature of the path and that Penhale is a military training area.
