The Beaches of West Cornwall - W15 - Chapel Porth
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike. Location: North Coast - 5 miles northeast of Redruth
There is NO beach at Chapel Porth at high tide and swimming is prohibited. At low tide however, the sea retreats to exhibit fine golden sand. There is a good car-park, toilets and small cafe here (in season). A short walk seaward offers views eastward to Tubby's Head at St. Agnes and westward to Porthtowan. Above the beach are the much photographed ruined minestacks of Wheal Coates and Towanroath. They are well worth a visit if time permits. This is good cliff walking country, the paths being set well inland so that there is no need to worry about being cut-off by the tide.
