The Beaches of West Cornwall - W25 - Porthminster Beach
This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. Walking west from Carbis Bay the coastal footpath leads over Porthminster Point down onto the excellent Porthminster Beach. The beach has fine golden sand and is quite sheltered as it lies between the headlands of Pedn Olva and Porthminster Point. The railway station for the St. Ives Branch Line terminates here and this can make the beach quite crowded in summer. There is plenty of accommodation in the town to suit all pockets and tastes and several other beaches including Town Beach, Porthgwidden Beach and the surfers favourite at Porthmeor.
